TEMPTED BY TWO and a giveaway!

Here's my latest self published title TEMPTED BY TWO, a steamy hot menage erotic romance set a sleepy, old world English village. On holiday, heroine Katie meets Marcus Dane, a handsome artist who she's admired for a long time, and quickly becomes involved in an intense three way affair with him, and with his equally gorgeous lover, Owen.

A different kind of angel

Today sees the publication of my second work for Samhain Publishing, an erotic paranormal novella entitled A TOUCH OF HEAVEN.

TOUCH is an unusual little story. It's comparatively short [18K words] but I think it packs quite a punch because there are a lot of different elements to it. While I was writing it, I certainly had to think long and hard about a variety of issues, including a woman's perception of her own ageing process and even some aspects of mysticism and theology. All sounds a bit heavy for a short erotic romance, doesn't it?

The story is about an angel, something that I haven't touched on before in my fiction. I originally wrote it in answer to a publisher call at Samhain Publishing, but because I was busy with other deadlines, I didn't manage to complete it in the time required, so I never actually subbed it. However, an editor saw me mention the story in discussion on a message board, and she urged me to submit it anyway when it was finished. Luckily for me, it was eventually accepted.

Patrick, my angel, is a different kind of angel. Not the kind that quite often appears in romance and urban fantasy books and stories. He isn't a warrior angel with a flaming sword, engaged in a never ending battle between good and evil, smiting demons right left and center, and sporting a name ending in 'riel'. No, my Patrick is a gentler sort of fellow. He's kind and nurturing, and humane if you can call a non human creature that. His mission isn't to participate in a holy war, but to heal and bring comfort to those mortals who need him. This might all make him sound very much like a mild, very Beta hero, but in his own way he's also strong and powerful. He simply wields his power in a quiet non-flashy style.

He's also human, at least in a temporary, quazi sort of way. To visit earth and do what he has to do, he has to take a human form, because his real state isn't something a mortal can comprehend. Everything about him, in his angelic form, is beyond our understanding, as are his 'home' and his 'boss'... The people he encounters on his mission, especially Miranda, the heroine, can only deal in approximations and representations of his mystical reality.

If all this sounds a bit airy fairy, don't be put off. Patrick, my golden angel, is actually a very down to earth guy. His mission completed, he has a little holiday time in hand... and he likes to spend it in a very human way. He enjoys lying in the sun - naked! He loves eating junk food and drinking pop. He listens to music on an iPod and reads romantic novels. And he also likes flirting with beautiful women, in the form of Miranda, who lives next door to the residence that he's apparently 'house sitting'.

Miranda, for her part, quickly falls head over heals in lust and love with the beautiful but mysterious young man next door. He's utterly gorgeous, and most miraculous of all, he seems to be genuinely attracted to her, even though she's well into her forties, and she suffers from twinges of arthritis. With Patrick she feels young and vibrant again, in a very literal sense. His magic touch with massage actually relieves her pain, and his gorgeous body and heavenly face revive her libido and send it in to overdrive. She feels sexy and attractive again because of him.

But of course, that's not all the story... despite their fast growing love for each other, and the idyllic pleasure that Miranda receives at Patrick's hands, there are terrifying difficulties in their path and agonizing choices they have to make. No sooner have they found each other than they face being wrenched apart again, and worse than that, the specter of extinction looms over Patrick...

What I did this week...

It's been a busy week. I did a little writing early in the week, but mostly, I've been working on my new role as a self publisher and I released not one but two new ebooks. Both of these titles are brand new, original works, not retreads of previously published titles. They're shorter items, what I'd call novelettes or novellas, not densely plotted, more like snapshots of the romantic and erotic lives of their characters. Hopefully, they're tasty little nibbles for readers to enjoy while they wait for the next traditionally epublished and print published Portia items. :)

This one's a shortie, a 9.8K word novelette about a couple who enjoy the pleasures of BDSM.

Yes, I'm still alive...

Sorry I've not been posting here much lately. I seem to be exceptionally busy at the moment, doing nothing much. Weird that, isn't it? The days seem to fly by and I don't have much to show for them, most of the time... Think it's the cooler weather, and a cold I had that seems to have induced a lingering lurgi... sigh...

Anyway, thought you would like to see the magnificent photo of Kuffer, that I took a couple of days ago. He's the King of Demented Poses, and even at his advanced age, he still manages to score high marks for artistic interpretation. :)

So, what have I been doing, apart from drifting about in a stupor and spending too much time on Twitter?

Before I throw myself commitedly into writing IN THE FLESH, my Victorian opus for Spice, I've been attempting to dream up a few ideas for shorter works, probably ebooks. At the moment, I'm grappling with a story that's about a fallen angel type character... Am not sure about the precise details of who or what he is, I'm just playing it by ear and trundling along with the writing. Which may or may not be a mistake, because I've a feeling I should have planned it out better first, and worked out some kind of mythos for my gorgeous angelic character. All I know for certain is that he bears a startling resemblance to a certain 'consultant' who helps the police with their enquiries in my current favourite cop show... ;)

Mmm.... sigh... yum yum...

busy day...

It's been a weird and busyish day today. Some work, but quite a bit of communication.

First I was chatting to a friend, hoping to support her in the face of something very disquieting that's happened and convince her that she will prevail in the end and reap the just rewards of her exceptional writing talent. Then my agent called, and we had a nice chat about this and that, and various projects I have at different stages of development. Sounds like more of my books that were originally print works might pop up as ebooks soon too. Some stuff has already appeared in Kindle format, if you check the various book listings on the left.

Found it tough to settle after all the above, but finally got stuck into a short story/novella thing I'm working on at the moment. This is one of my very rare forays into the historical erotic sub genre, and is a spicy tale about a slightly naive Victorian widow who falls into the very frisky hands of not one, but two, or possibly even three very naughty gentlemen! Should be a laugh... but for the right reasons, I hope... not for my questionable cod Victorian dialogue and narration. Will have to get some pretty stringent critique on that!

Sorry for the gaps...

... but I will try and do better now that my Gothic Heat proofs are turned in. Boy was that a task! As usual, I didn't trust the first check, so I forced myself to do another... which was good job, as I found lots and lots of snafus on the second pass. And many of them weren't ones that a proof corrector, looking for just spelling and stuff, would have picked up on. You wouldn't think that a novel from somebody who plots as little as I do could have many continuity errors, but believe me, even with the slightest of plots, it's possible!

And now I have to get back to writing, as well as a zillion other jobs that have stacked up while I've been doing proofs. My first task is a short novella, workingly titled The Retreat, which I have to finish by the end of December. It's going to be one of those naughty ones with spanking and power games, and in the course of some movie viewing, I've discovered the perfect hero for it.

Edward Norton, looking stern and delicious as Eisenheim, in The Illusionist. I love his power and his quiet composure, qualities that make him ideal as a model for my subtle but dominant Ben. My story isn't historical, but there's certainly a slight anachronistic and Edwardian bohemian quality to this guy.

What's next?

Well, now that Gothic Heat is finished, I've got to decide what to do next... I'm hoping there'll be another Black Lace novel in the works before too long, but while decisions are being made on that, I need to have a project to occupy me in the meantime.

What I'm hoping to do first off is work on another novella, and what I have in mind is a sexy, kinky contemporary story about a pervy modern day aristocrat who's into a bit of the old BDSM. The idea is starting to firm up nicely in my mind and I'm getting a clear picture of my hero, Christian, who's a rather eccentric marquis who dresses a bit gothic and has silky long black hair. I've had a thing about long-haired heroes since I wrote about Valentino in Suite Seventeen, and as I had to forgo Rafe's long hair in Gothic Heat due to cover issues, I'm going to indulge myself now with Christian, Marquis of Blaystock.

Am looking forward to having some fun with this one... :)
